Women Network for Energy and Environment (WoNEE) is a national network of passionate
grassroots women for their involvement in Nepal's energy and environment sector. We have been
working as an autonomous non-profit organization under the government of Nepal since 2018.
Before that, since 2015 we have been working as a wing of the Nepal Energy Foundation (NEF). With
a motto to enhance the socio-economic status of women through skill and knowledge
transformation, WoNEE has now expanded and comprises 100-plus local networks throughout the
country at the municipal level working to strengthen women’s leadership and equal participation in
decision-making. Working with a range of people from grassroots-level women, marginalized people,
communities, experts, and policymakers, WoNEE has worked in paving the way toward meeting its
mission of an inclusive energy sector. Thus, through the use of its social mobilization capability,
WoNEE is working to improve the economic status of women and establish an effective advocacy
mechanism to make gender-responsive energy policy, and create a continuous mechanism to
mainstream gender issues in energy sector.
